Answering myself: I've just noticed that the DEB package already creates a corresponding entry in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
One small request: Make a dependency to the "apt-transport-https" package as it is needed for correct updates.
I asked the question over at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/
Doesn't look there will be a Skype for Business solution for Linux any time soon.
These chat rooms and some others by the way they are now visible, were not available in previous versions of the client for Linus (4.3). At the moment, I have a problem with only one chat. Next week is how much?
I have installed Skype Linux Alpha for Ubuntu but many groups are missing. That issue also happened on Skype for Web Beta.
Who can help me reload missing groups?
We are in the process of migrating these P2P legacy chats to cloud chats over the next weeks.
Please head on over to our Skype for Linux Alpha release announcement to learn everything you need to know about this new chapter in Skype for Linux:
unfortunately, it most likely won't work, according to the reddit users and also Skype community. There may be some chance of running it with ExaGear Desktop (youtube video), but I've never heard of it until now when I tried to search for Linux for Ubuntu ARM.
However, you should be able to use Skype for Web, at least for text messaging.
If you leave a bookmarked chat in the Linux client, the bookmark cannot be removed in the UI because the button is disabled.
Here's how to remove the bookmarked chat from the roster under Linux. This involves modification of Skype's local database. Backup your files first!
0. close the Skype application
1. open the .Skype/YourSkypeName/main.db database with sqlite3
2. find the id of the bookmarked chat that contains "SomeChat" in the name:
SELECT id, displayname FROM Conversations WHERE is_bookmarked=1 AND displayname LIKE '%SomeChat%';
3. remember the id
4. update the is_bookmarked flag for id [removed for privacy]
UPDATE Conversations SET is_bookmarked=0 WHERE id=[removed for privacy];
5. close sqlite and start the Skype application
