I am really concerned that the blame is consistently being pushed to the TV manufacturers by M/Soft Skype by stating it is up to the manufacturers if they want to keep the 'working app available' on their products. (Suggested Alternatives for Skype)
Yes I was a little harsh in my response there -and I do apologise for it as it is uncalled for; however - when talking about this it is quite clear from all the posts across this forum that SKYPE (no longer being technically supported) is starting to fail. As manufacturers upgrade their software, SKYPE becomes less compatible/stable and thus fails to operate as expected - and becomes useless. In real terms - discontinued, unsupported both therefor have the same meaning.
Samsung have done the right thing in informing their customer base, and HAVE informed their outlets - they removed the stand alone camera for this reason. They are giving refunds for the camera. Give them credit for this. Other manufacturers seem to be just ignoring this in an apparent desire to 'make it go away'. Some retailers are failing to pass on the information (claiming ignorance) likely to 'shift their current stock' (it's all about profits y'all). Samsung are looking into alternatives to SKYPE but this will be a long drawn out process... and likely the market will just move away as it is forced to abandon the failing SKYPE app before another solution is reached.
MICROSOFT have cleverly shifted the blame by saying the app is still available, despite it no longer being supported and that it is up to the TV Manufacturers as to whether or not they utilise it by the way they carefully worded their press release. Despite that no manufacturer in their right mind would supply software that will fail, lose compatibility with their upgrades and possibly leave it open to HACKING... so their hands are forced, yet they get the blame. *Hence why I say that Samsung are doing the right thing early on.
I have no qualms in saying Microsoft are morally wrong - but business wise they are being quite astute and moving the market towards their other products and software which they want to build on (UWP), and at the same time corner whatever they can in the market.
The surveys and petitions so far have been so small in their take up that they are 'insignificant' in the bigger picture for Microsoft who will thus suffer little by ignoring them. (don't shout at me - DO THE PETITION(S) etc. if you want to make a difference). The press and news forums are not really interested in the story - as there are far bigger things going on - elections of the president of USA, European votes on whether UK is in or out... Wars (which are all saddening no matter the reasons), terror attacks from people who have misguided methods of brutality to gain control over people and lands (not something I want to debate over really)... so this 'story' is going under their radar. Microsoft like to blame Samsung for withdrawing it as they say it is still available (albeit not supported) and the press gobble up the Microsoft media machines carefully worded press releases without question... Hence my thoughts on it being quite astute of Microsoft in their methodology (Whether or not you agree with them morally).
Want to change all this - DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT - don't just grumble on this forum about how much you spent (wasted) on equipment, or how it will affect you communication abilities with family who live far away - SIGN THE PETITIONS, get it talked about on all your media outlets that you use... keep doing this - it is a case of PUT UP or SHUT UP.

Just got notified of the end of the Skype application service today. I recently purchased a Samsung TV Camera - specifically designed for use with Skype on my Samsung HD TV.
I have family that I Skype with regularly and the end of the service will make it impossible to communicate.
The ability to use Skype with my Samsung TV was a selling feature for me. I have to ask WHY this is being discontinued.
I wonder if I should have purchased a Sony or LG, as family members using Skype on their TV's have not been notified that they will loose this feature.
Feeling ripped off...
Brett
My Samsung TV just notified me that from June 2nd Skype will no longer be available.
How is that possible . We need Skype available on Smart TV, how can you let down your users like that???
You must keep the app, I dont care if you stop supporting or stop the updated !
I am sure they are asking huge licensing fee from Samsung.
Mod Edit: Edited post to comply with the Skype Community Guidelines
Please head on over to our Skype for Linux Alpha release announcement to learn everything you need to know about this new chapter in Skype for Linux:
I sincerely hope this doesn't end up with you guys ruining the linux client like you ruined the windows one because if that happens I will never ever consider using skype again.
All we want is for you to support and add video calls in ghetto-skype ( https://github.com/stanfieldr/ghetto-skype ), nothing more.
I hope you release skype in flatpak format...
Worst thing you can do to your reputation as a company is to announce that there is some exciting news (to you it seems exciting) and then make people wait for some grand announcement which adds to the destruction of your reputation when people do not receive it the way you portray it. You need to seriously get a clue. You either have news to tell on the spot, or you are hyping up for a serious failure for not thinking this through. I got some news for you - You are about to fail in a major way.
Flavio, MS doesn't update Skype Linux version since June, 2014.
Do you still believe them?
Come on,
This update is only because Skype Linux software is the only that still doesn't have advertisements. So Skype Linux free users are complete losses for MS. They will update with few bugs solved and the new AOL/AppNexus advertisements API and that is it.
No GIFs, no Windows Skype design, no Windows skype new features,...
To be honest, don't trust in Microsoft. They failed with WP users, that was actually MS users (!)
But we will wait. Only please do not be excited.
A minor update to patch in adverts and nothing else? Then, I will never use Skype again, or will any of the vast numbers of people leaving inferior operating systems, like Windows.
NOTE: that is only a temporary solution. We have found that users come back with the same issues again. I found that another thread was started on Technet and shows the removal of KB3114831 resolves the issue. At this point in time, we have done this for about 5 computers and so far it has not come back. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/
Where are all of you located ?
East coast, mid west or west coast ??
I have users in Ohio and Arizona. Both having these problems.
This solved the problem for me using Office 365 (2016 version) -- Thanks!
Microsoft has in fact commented:
In addition to clearing the cache they suggest adding a registry entry and turning off the cache setting. I've been successful thus far keeping the cache setting after adding the registry entry and clearing the cache, but we'll see how that goes.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3156496
So far so good. To me this is a better alternative than uninstalling KB3114831.
Here's some further information on Skype accounts:
here's the link;
Hello,
The official guidance regarding this problem is to simply change your password to one only used for your Skype account. You should also make sure that the password you use is a strong one.
Hope that helps.
The official guidance is hog wash.
Even I got the exact same problem.
I haven't put entered my outlook / skype password in any website for a long time, both my devices a Mac and an Android phone automatically log me in and theres nothing dodgy installed there to somehow steal the password.
I have seen posts on the same linked thread which said the same happened even after changing passwords. This was obviously a bot which sent the messages no one would manually be generating links like for each and every contact.
Skype has to come bloody clean on this instead of issuing blanket statements that the username and password is compromised hence the problem.
Happened to me 3 weeks ago. Reset my password, happened again today @ 2AM.
Just posting for awareness. Was also victim of this attack today.
Come on!
Seriously?
this is the best solution you can came up with?!
congratulation.
one of the strongest invitation i got to change messaging platform.
I was having the same problem. Ubuntu 14,04 here. I found this answer in a forum that solved the problem for me.
After struggling a bit, I found some useful commands. You can type these in any skype chat window.
What was happening was that /dumpmsnp command was showing "LoggedOut", but I was online and talking almost normally (except group chats).
System: MSNP: Connection Data: * Status: LoggedOut
To solve this "LoggedOut" issue, try this on any chat window:
/msnp24
and restart your Skype.
After restarting, /dumpmsnp output shows the following status:
System: MSNP: Connection Data (MSNP24): * Status: LoggedIn
I don't know exactly why, but the /msnp24 command kinds of converted my account to this protocol and now everything works perfectly.
I have the same problem today, i use Fedora 21, and the skype version is skype-4.3.0.37-2.fc21.i686
Last friday is ok, but today i can no longer send/receive all groups messages. I checked with /get name and all of them is cloud-based groups.(But i've no idea previously was cloud-based groups or not because i never heard and run /get name until today.)
To the left of the message, it shows small yellow triangle icon with balloon tips "Not delivered yet"
skype for linux is old and somewhat deprecated. if you want to use skype for linux. then ok. but skype for web might be the only alternative until microsoft finally releases a new version of skype for linux. until then. i seggest tox. http://tox.chat
I am also getting same issue. Just want to check with if you get it resolved or not. If yes, pls let me know the resolution.
Hello!
I have close to this problem.
Few group chats doesn't work on my linux pc - i don't recieve messages and can't send it. Same problem on my android tablet.
And this problem reproduces on few private chats.
Please help!
Linux localhost.localdomain 4.0.8-200.fc21.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Jul 10 21:09:54 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Hello all.
After a lot of try and error, a coworker here found a viable solution.
I'm using ubuntu 14.04 amd64.
remove the 64bits version of skype
delete the folder ~/.Skype
install the i386 version of skype
start Skype
Login and after that quit Skype
(be sure skype isn't running in background)
ps -ef | grep skype
(if it still running, kill it with a sudo kill -9 with the pid of skype)
Edit the ~/.Skype/(yourskypeusername)/config.xml
Locate the </DynContent> tag
bellow that line, insert the following:
<MSNPCore>
<HomeServer>bn2-s.gateway.messenger.live.com</Home
<NewThreadAllowed>1</NewThreadAllowed>
<P2PMigrationAllowed>0</P2PMigrationAllowed>
<ProtocolToUse>24</ProtocolToUse>
<RecentConnectionInfo>bn2-s.gateway.messenger.live
<RecentConversationsSyncState>1718b80d2f5101000000
</MSNPCore>
(note this is at the same level of the DynContent tag)
Start skype again
Worked fine here.
Amazing. I have been pulling my hair out trying to fix a "Messaging Unavailable" issue in groups chat for Linux. This worked. Though Skype was really slow upon restarting. I had to restart it a second time. My skype works now. Thank you so much!!!

Hello,
That statement is incorrect. Skype has said that there won't be further enhancements to the app - not that the app was being withdrawn. The only TV manufacturer who decided to remove the app from its TVs has been Samsung.

OH YOU ARE SOOOO out of line Mr MODERATOR - on your own forums it is VERY CLEAR that SKYPE TV is NO LONGER SUPPORTED! FULL STOP. Therefore IS discontinued. Lets not play semantics here! SAMSUNG are the only TV producer to have the courtesy to let their user know - and so far the only producer to offer refunds for specialised cameras - see this thread - SKYPE on TV - Skype on Samsung Smart TV Discontinued 2 - whilst the rest sit back and ignore the elephant in the room using the TACTIC - IF WE IGNORE IT, IT'LL GO AWAY. This is clearly what is happening as you only need to look at the forum and the other TV MANUFACTUERS being mentioned where the SKYPE TV app is failing to work. SHAME ON MICROSOFT.
ALSO NromanM you are running the risk of falsely stating that the APPS WILL WORK for other TV's which may lead people to believe they can fork out monies on them and they WILL WORK - You could be falsely stating facts and which I believe IS AN ABUSE of a position as a MODORATOR associated with MICROSOFT - who are VERY CLEARLY NOT supporting the APP, therefor the APP - no matter the manufacturer of the TV - WILL LIKELY NOT WORK. I reiterate the multiple threads from other manufacturers where they (the USER) are reporting this. Thus one can quite happily conclude - it is DISCONTINUED. Which is entirely different to NO LONGER AVAILABLE - which asdfasdf2 did NOT say.
You can find the latest list of 3rd part Skype call recording software here: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12395/how-can-i
You can record Skype video calls with the program Evaer Skype video recorder.
Evaer supports recording Skype video calls to your hard disk with side-by-side, separate files, audio-only, local-webcam-only and remote-webcam-only mode. Up to 10 ways Skype group video recording is supported. It's very easy to use with friendly UI.
You can also use Pamela or VodBurner.
Hope this helps.
healthtrak wrote:SKYPE video CANNOT be recorded with current apps without errors (applies to Vodburner, RinTinTin and the other two.
it would be helpful for others to know the names of "the other two".
And I would appreciate if you reported on the kind of errors.
I myself never used any of the "skype recorders", since they are restricted to the skype windows. Instead I have always been using complete desktop capturings including audio, created by Techsmith Camtasia and Techsmith Morae. (by the time, some hundred hours of error-free recordings came about. their evaluation in a research project is still in progress.)
:robotvery-happy:Well I guess there is not a way to record....you now that you could always contact them
Try third party product 'Pamela'
Known to be good
do u have free app for record?
talk helper does not free now
Hi there,
I have been in using this software that you can find in this link: http://webcam-recorder.com/
It does not gives you any problems, and it records video chats in you need it.
Hope this helps!
