That generally means you have a newer or other release of Visual Studio Runtime installed.  You should find  (x86) instances of either Visual Studio C++ 2015, 2017 or both.  Removing then reinstalling this version should rectify the error.

I would suggest since a newer version of the software has been released, that you try out those releases to see if that resolves the issues you are having with the client.  You can get the latest version from the download page or these direct links.

Skype 7.33.0.105 (exe version)

Skype 7.33.0.105 XP/Vista (exe version)

Skype 7.33.0.105 (msi version)

Skype 7.33.32.105 (business msi version)

Hi all,

Please note we released a HF for 7.33 yesterday which was designed to help address this issue for customers. If you have been having problems installing the client please try again.

You should not download Skype from any other location than http://www.Skype.com

if you are having problems please make sure you are using 7.33.x.105 and above.

i am now locking this thread, thank you all for your feedback

I suddenly got the following error message trying to open Skype (in desktop computer, Window 10

Skype.exe – System Error

The program can’t start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Have you already considered to replace api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll? They might be corrupt or damaged.

Here is the link: [ removed unofficial download source] please download VS2015 redistributable files from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53840

You need vc_redist.x86.exe as Skype for Windows Desktop is 32bit application.
