Skype has stopped working

Casual Adventurer

I have tried everything, and whenever I open skype it logs in and says
"Skype has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is possible"

I tried other fixes found on the forum, but nothing has seemed to work. I need help

Try first to reset all Skype settings.

Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.

Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.

Restart Skype.

N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

Many thanks for the advise and Skype is working a lot better now although it still does crash from time to time. I don't use it very often. I am now having problems with my webcam which keeps crashing mid video call. When I unclick the webcam button and reclick it works again. Do you have any ideas to stop this happening?

Try to uninstall the currently installed version and install the older 6.1.0.129 version using this msi-installer:

http://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_6.1.0.129.msi

After installing this version, make sure to disable the Automatic updates:

Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Automatic updates ->Turn off automatic updates

What version of Windows are you on (XP, Vista, Windows 7)?

Open Windows Event Viewer and look for recent error messages with timestamp corresponding to Skype crash.
