I tried that but then it says that it needs a service pack and directs me to this website:

Which service pack do I download now?

you don't need to install the Service Pack manually, because it can be installed easily from Windows Update.

so, just open Control Panel -> Windows Update, and install all the pending updates (without exceptions), including the optionals.

already told you about this in page 1: http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/quot-Sometimes-the-internet-gets-a-bit-sleepy-q...

I gave that a try as well but it wont work. I updated it just fine. But I still have the same problem as always.

And whats more is that I also seem to have a big downloading issue too. I can only download 1 file. But then if I want to dowload another, I would need to shut off my computer again in order to do that.

depend of the update type only, not all require restart.

next time don't disable automatic updates of Windows.

You need to update your Vista to Service Pack2 (SP2).
