I've been trying to use Skype 6.0 (desktop version) on my Windows 8 machine for a couple days now, since the native Windows 8 Skype app is so buggy. Anyways, I've noticed that i can use the desktop version for a couple minutes when i first start my computer, before it completely locks up and I can't do anything. Let me explain. By "locking up", I mean that everything stops working in Skype. Changing my status won't do anything, my IMs don't get sent, and nothing comes in either. It's almost as though I lose connection to the Skype servers after a couple minutes of use. After I forcibly sign out of my account, I can't log back in, because Skype tells me I'm already signed in, meaning I hafto restart my computer again to get Skype working for the couple minutes that it does.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure Skype is not running in Compatibility / ADMIN Mode.

Try to reset Skype Settings

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you posted and nothing is ticked on mine either. I also recently reinstalled Windows 8 to get the same issue for the Skype Desktop application, which is why I've taken to the forums to ask about this issue.

Thanks in advance

Yes, multiple times. I'm now in the process of testing a solution I found in the Windows 8 Section of the forum regarding the same issue. Maybe ensuring the hard drive never turns off will fix the problem.

Please post event viewer log in your very next reply.

Click Start >> Run >> Type eventvwr.msc /s
Custom Views >> Administrative Events
Look for any error message related to Skype crash.

Apparently uninstalling Skype with Revo fixed something reinstalling my entire OS couldn't fix. Regardless, it is working for now, so I guess it did its job. Thanks.
