Is there any way do downgrade skype? The latest update simply sucks, hopefully i disabled the fakebook support, however i Can't get back the old emoticons (these are BAD! The worst one is - you completely ruined this emoticon, it does not represent it's meaning now)

I NEED THE OLD EMOTICONS!

New ones SUCKS!

Also, is there any Changelog? Why are not the updates optional?!

There are several options to get every version of Skype you may wish.

0. Skype's most recent full version for offline installations is here:
download.skype.com/SkypeSetupFull.exe

skype.com/go/getskype-full
business edition:

skype.com/go/getskype-msi

paste the blue line into the address bar of your browser, hit ENTER

1. Skype archives contain many msi files, though not all.
In the following example text, fill in the version number you desire
download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_4.2.0.169.msi

paste the blue line into the address bar of your browser, hit ENTER

2. Well-proven third party collections:
I compared a couple of their files with the original ones from Skype,

using the MD5 checksum method. Finding:

Their files are no modifications, but identical copies:

filehippo.com/download_skype/6707/

oldapps.com/skype.php

paste the blue line into the address bar of your browser, hit ENTER

3. anonymous upload stations like rapidshare, or particular websites informing on Skype:
I checked a couple of them, but there are many that I personally would not trust in.

Go to oldapps.com and search for SKYPE - it shouldn't be difficult, because its the most popular search at the moment!
Download, then uninstall your current version.
DISCONNECT from internet and install the earlier version, then make sure you untick the automatic download option in settings before re-connecting your internet connection.
Worked for me! I liked 4.2.0.158, but apparently 5.0.0 is OK as well.

Getting an older version of Skype isn't the problem, keeping the old version is. I absolutely hate the Skype versions after the 4.0 series because it requires more clicks to get where you want to go and the font size is smaller and more difficult to read. It just goes to show that "new" isn't the same as "improved". My version of 3.8 became corrupted and I had to uninstall and reinstall, but the next time I reboot my computer Skype automatically updates me to the latest 5 series version. This is in spite of the fact that my settings are set to NOT automatically upgrade me. It's an important enough problem that I'm willing to uninstall and reinstall Skype every morning when I boot up my computer. I'm also considering just leaving my computer on and never rebooting it.

you can get an older version of Skype, but good luck in keeping it.

Exact same problem here... : (

Changing the setting to NOT update automatically just doesnt help. Please let me know if you can figure out a better solution than having to keep re-installing!!

Those emoticons make me feel sick : (

Does anybody have a solution for this problem yet? The new Skype takes so much memory, I really want the old one back and back to stay without reinstalling it daily.

Download older Skype from OldVersion.com

I did that several times already but each time I turn off the computer and turn it on the next day, version 5.1 has reinstalled itself again. So then I start again with de-installing verion 5.1 and re-installing version 3.8, disable the automatic update and the next day its the same again.
