I am unable to use skype effectively in ubuntu 11.10 64bit... Webcam listed but just black and constantly crashes the system, especially pulseaudio.

Is there any solution?

you can replace pulseaudio with alsamixer

1 thing though, after reinstalling Ubuntu 11.10, skype stopped appearing in the top toolbar near the mail icon(as id did the first time i got 11.10), now, if i close the window, it completely dissapears, clicking on the icon would open another instance wich is impossible. Cuz of this i have to kill skype through task manager everytime...then reopen it...

Had problems as others, with libXss.so.1 missing, did following:

echo foreign-architecture i386 | sudo tee /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/multiarch

sudo apt-get install libxss1:i386 libqtcore4:i386 libqt4-dbus:i386 libqtgui4:i386

For a detailed explanation Google "aaronbonner libXss.so.1"

Many thanks to Author. All is well in skype land!!!
