I just purchased a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" and the first app I tried was Skype. The video quality was great and I heard the person on the other line fine, but they couldn't hear me at all. I've been on tech support with Amazon and they did everything they could to assist me (such as resetting my kindle, uninstalling and reinstalling skype, ect.) but every time I try my mic out "Echo123" can't hear me. Has anyone else had this problem? How do I tell if it's skype or my kindle? Do I need to return my kindle and get a new one? I'd appriciate any feedback!

Yes, we are having the same problem with the newly upgraded version 3 of Skype on our new kindle Fire HD.  Version 2 seemed to work fine.  It has to be a Skype problem with their new version but how does one contact them and tell them about it?

HI, I just downloaded Skype on my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and the audio worked fine (I would like to know where the mic is located on the Kindle though).  However, I didn't have video -- and didn't see the usual video option.

Can anyone help me with this?

I am having a similiar problem. On my Kindle it appears to be only Skype is affected. I am able verify the micophone is working by making a short video recording and playing it back to see if the mike is working.

The mike is not functioning with either the Echo Test or actual Skype calls. It must be associated with an update to either the Kindle software of Skype. It had been working correctly on this Kindle.

I have version 5.0.506.54266 currently installed. I am unsure of how to verify that is the latest available.

The issue is now solved. After being bounced back and forth between Skype and Kindle customer support, each pointing the finger at the other, i finally managed to et the support of a senior Kindle Customer Service Rep. He had me try several things, none of which worked. It finally came down to a recommendation to reset the Kindle to factory condition. Since my Kindle is routinely backuped, this is a relatively simple process. After completing the process and reinstalling the Skype App, I tried a test call. t finally worked. I am not sure what the problem actually was, but the process of resetting the Kindle corrected what ever was wrong.
