Novel Adventurer

I just set up Skype for the first time.  I'm on Windows XP, trying to use a Logitech combo microphone / camera.  It is not working even though it is set as the default in the control panel.  I ran MS Fix It, but no result.  Probably I'm overlooking something stupid, but yes the USB connection is plugged in. Any suggestions most appreciated.

What is the currently installed Skype version? In Skype go to Help -> About Skype.

What do you see when in Skype you go to Tools -> Options -> Video settings?

What device is selected as Microphone in Tools -> Options -> Audio settings? Is there more than one option available in the selection box? Can you see any response on the Volume bar when your make any sound?
