As Skype service is discontinued for Smart TVs, I'm looking for Skype alternatives? Not only for Smart TV, but in general.

What's your preferred choice for messaging/call app, other than Skype?

Hello,

That statement is incorrect. Skype has said that there won't be further enhancements to the app - not that the app was being withdrawn. The only TV manufacturer who decided to remove the app from its TVs has been Samsung.

TIME ZONE - US EASTERN. LOCATION - PHILADELPHIA, PA, USA.

I recommend that you always run the latest Skype version: Windows & Mac

If my advice helped to fix your issue please mark it as a solution to help others.

So based on this reply, you're suggesting that Samsung is the real bad guy?

With you (Skype/Microsoft) no longer supporting the app on devices you at one time promoted, what is the lift left in this un-supported app before it no longer connects?

Will the app function for another day or 2 after you drop support; 1 month, 2 years?

Samsung is removing an app you killed by cutting support. I seems a little late to start the finger pointing.

You "stabbed" it and Samsung is taking it off of life support. Which is the real villain here?

OH YOU ARE SOOOO out of line Mr MODERATOR - on your own forums it is VERY CLEAR that SKYPE TV is NO LONGER SUPPORTED!  FULL STOP.  Therefore IS discontinued.  Lets not play semantics here!  SAMSUNG are the only TV producer to have the courtesy to let their user know - and so far the only producer to offer refunds for specialised cameras - see this thread - SKYPE on TV - Skype on Samsung Smart TV Discontinued 2  -  whilst the rest sit back and ignore the elephant in the room using the TACTIC - IF WE IGNORE IT, IT'LL GO AWAY.  This is clearly what is happening as you only need to look at the forum and the other TV MANUFACTUERS being mentioned where the SKYPE TV app is failing to work.   SHAME ON MICROSOFT.

ALSO NromanM you are running the risk of falsely stating that the APPS WILL WORK for other TV's which may lead people to believe they can fork out monies on them and they WILL WORK - You could be falsely stating facts and which I believe IS AN ABUSE of a position as a MODORATOR associated with MICROSOFT - who are VERY CLEARLY NOT supporting the APP, therefor the APP - no matter the manufacturer of the TV - WILL LIKELY NOT WORK.  I reiterate the multiple threads from other manufacturers where they (the USER) are reporting this.  Thus one can quite happily conclude - it is DISCONTINUED. Which is entirely different to NO LONGER AVAILABLE - which asdfasdf2 did NOT say.

No need to attack Norman here, who is a volunteer Moderator here on the Skype Community.
All the facts - which Norman rephrased - are still available here: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34642/what-changes-are-coming-to-skype-for-tv
In summary: We will stop supporting the Skype on your TV app from June onwards. It's up to TV manufacturers to decide if they want to leave the working Skype app up in their app store.
