Delayed Incoming Calls

The problem with this, of course, is if you are migrating an existing name to Skype Connect. We can't have a 45 second delay for all of our customers for two days. They'll assume we're down.

We're also seeing a 34 second delay in incoming calls.  We're paying $6.95 per channel for a service that we'll never get calls on, since people will drop the call before waiting that long.

What is being done about this problem, and having it mysteriously disappear is not an answer.  Please provide us with an adequate answer on how to resolve this issue.

Sincerely,

I see that you are having problems with your incoming calls to an Attached Business user thru Skype Connect.  As the delay that is happening is not related to the Skype Connect service (channel connections times less than 1 ring 2 seconds to the PBX). The problem exists in the Skype Client Peer to Peer network before the transfer to the SIP network.  Sometimes it’s not possible to make a direct connection between your computer and the Managed User name you’re calling via Skype. This usually happens when the firewall/router settings, or those of your contact’s, are restrictive. In these cases, the connection needs to be relayed (redirected) via one or more additional computers. This may reduce your connection speed and may affect the connection transfer times.

The point I think that we and everyone else in this thread are making, is that any delay over 5 seconds is a deal-breaker.  If it takes longer than that, the call will be dropped, and what's the point of having the service.  Skype's point-of-view seems to be that people are going to purchase "channels" at $6.95/month to use assigned business numbers; however, Skype charges too much for that service.  Any DID provider will give you a number for $5/month and it includes two channels, so why would anyone pay $6.95/month per channel?!  We, like may others, want a way for regular Skype users to connect into our business phone system, just like any other call, and currently, this doesn't work -- even though Skype says it does.

I would suggest that Skype stop offering their SIP service for anything other than incoming phone lines, since it doesn't work for any other purpose.

Regards,

I talked to a member of the Skype Connect support team, and he said that delays in establishing Connect calls were common depending on available bandwidth, etc.  I told him the delay was 50 seconds, and he said "50 seconds??" but still didn't have an answer.

We have ultimately decided to stick with the antiquated, deprecated, and no longer supported skype asterisk module that was put out by Digium. It still works great, has none of the delays of Skype Connect, and is free.

We don't like using unsupported and unmaintained packages in production, but we are planning to stay put until either a solution to this problem is found or the Digium module stops working, forcing us to switch.

We're seeing a possibly related issue. Incoming calls from another SIP provider are near instantaneous but with Skype connect there are no PBX log entries until 11 seconds after a call is made and the customer receives the ringing tone.

That is an unuseable delay unfortunately. Is anybody able to receive calls with delays less than a couple of seconds with Skype connect?

I've repeadly complained about this through 2014 and even to this very day, but Skype are simply dragging their feet on the issue. Very very frustrating.

Just signed up to the service today to trial the performance with my PBX. I guess you all know why Google directed me to this thread. Mild encouragement from those that state it is a transient issue and vanishes mysteriously with time. I wish the time i have wasted looking into this issue would vanish too
