IOS 5 & Skype - Does not ring in background any longer

I may have found a temporary fix till an update is made available.

I'm not sure if this problem is only happening under iOS-5, so I decided to roll back my device to 4.3.3. I'm using the latest version of skype, on an iPod Touch 4g, and it seems to be working. I locked the device, waited about 30 minutes and placed a call to myself(it rang). Waited two hours and tried again and it was still online.

Whether or not skype remains online for good is yet to be determined, so I'll update later and let you guys know if it happens to disconnect again.

Woke up this morning, called myself using a friend's cell and it did not ring. Opened iPod and checkde Skype. It was still online, but did not ring the incoming call. This was the same issue I had while under iOS-5. Restarted Skype, called again and still did not ring.

Now I've decided to leave the desktop version open, with the iPod version also online. Whenever I call myself, it rings on both the desktop and iPod. Not sure if this will keep the iPod Skype online, so I'll try it out for a day and report back.

I wish that the solution would work for me. The only time I can receive Skype calls is when the app is open and the phone is unlocked. The other obvious solutions don't work for those who are unlucky enough to have the "bug".

Being that only of us are experiencing the problem, I'm going to try fully restoring iPhone.... Not the restore from backup kind. I'm going to do a hardcore restore, reinstall Skype and see if that works. If not I'm going to be really pissed. I had been missing calls from clients until I realized what was happening.

Same issue to any iOS5 device I have. . . Now it is maybe time after several months to find a fix don't you think ?? Thanks Microsoft to have brought the best of your support to Skype

I was having the same problems, but now after buying a Skype Online Number in the UK with the purpose of receiving calls on my iphone and thinking I had wasted my money....Skype seems to be directing calls to my iPhone 4 on ios5 even when phone is locked

I uninstalled Skype and then installed latest version which was Version 3.6.218

I then changed all 'Notification' settings for Skype to On, including 'View in Lock Screen' and changed Skype settings similarly including 'Never' go offline.

I have heard some people have heard tempermental success but after a day of testing and all 10 or so calls coming thru, I do hope this has finally resolved the problem.

i have same version of Skype, 3.6.218, and Skype still has problems.  I am not getting calls on the ipod touch after it locks or a period of time (I have a paid subscription for an online number with Skype).  Not sure where the problem lies, but Skype needs to get with Apple and figure this out.  My Skype number is my home phone number, so I need to be able to get my calls.

I should be commended for my patience with Skype.... I tried three different "phone  devices" hooked to my pc (btw: Zoom sucks).  Then I spent $230 on a Nokia E71 phone so I could Video Skype, then I find out that Skype disabled the plug-in that enabled Video Calling w/Symbian (real bummer).

Now I spent another $200 for an ipod touch so I could get my calls and the problems continue....

Having the same problem on my iPad 2 with iOS 5, Skype version 3.6.218.

Skype goes offline and stops receiveing calls after a while (can't determine the exact period).

I hope Microsoft sort things out with Apple soon

Add me to the list, too.  I had held off updating my 4S to 5.1 waiting to see if there was any outcry about issues.  Never thought to check about Skype and foolishly went ahead and updated.  Skype v3.7.40 is now virtually useless!!  If the phone locks the screen, all calls go to voicemail immediately.  Makes the service (and the money I'm paying for my annual subscription and SkypeIn #) useless.

Come on, Skype.  Get with the program and fix this stuff!  PLEASE!

I checked the setting and found that the alerts are set to "off" changed back to On, and now it works thank you
