Hi, does Skype support this Windows version already ? Cause it crashes when I want to sign in to skype after installing. I got a download for version 5.3, but in Windows 7 I think I had a different version I think it must be 5.5 or 5.6 it was the slick version. Perhaps the skype webservers doesn't recognize this Windows version yet and they let me download the old version perhaps the new version will work or another solution please ??

5.3 is not supposed to work with Windows 8.
There have been issues with the download servers, so please try to download 5.5.0.117 normal version from here: http://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_5.5.0.117
NOTE: You may need to uninstall first before going to a newer/older msi version for Skype, so in your case, it maybe best to save this file as well. To install/uninstall using this file, simply right click on the file name and choose Install or Uninstall.

Had to manually delete roaming appdata after uninstalling previous versions, then reinstalled and it worked.

When you say join, do you mean a conference call as in join?
Are you getting any errors?
I have a utility that maybe helpful to at least see what is going on behind the curtains, if you encounter errors. More here: http://saveontelephonebills.com/modules.php?name=N

After rebooting Skype didn't started, when I start it with the desktop shortcut it crashes. But I started it from the I call it new desktop it loaded correctly. Eh it's not the new desktop it's the new start button/menu, so when you click there the skype button/shortcut it still works.
