Skype window is open on startup: 1x Skype account, 2x Windows 7 profiles [solved] [ Edited ]

Hi,

I have one Skype account and two Windows7 x64 profiles.

When I log-in to either account, the Skype window(s) is open on startup.  This is despite the command line being the following, on both profiles:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /nosplash /minimized

I would like Skype to sign in on both profiles on startup but no Skype windows to be open and the Skype icon to appear only in the system tray.

Can anyone help?

I tried going back to version 4.8 but for some reason, the Skype Window is still open on start up.

I have two windows profiles and one Skype account. Could this be the reason?

4.8 unknown to me. Do you mean 3.8 or 4.2 ?

Sorry, I meant 4.2.0.187.

I tried disabling it from one of the user's start up profile list, but that hasn't stopped it opening on the other one.

The first start of Skype 4.2. opened its main window and a checkbox for video. Subsequent starts ran Skype minimized as a tray icon.

In Skype Tools - Options, I disabled "Start Skype when I start Windows".

In C:\Program Files\Skype\phone\skype.exe , I created a shortcut. Then

Rightclick - Properties - Target: after skype.exe I added: blank /minimized

Then I pasted a copy of the shortcut into Windows Autostart.

It did not make a difference whether I selected Tools - Options - Advanced - "Keep Skype in taskbar" or not.

Just for clarity for others:

1. The target line should look like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /minimized

2. You left click+hold, and drag the shortcut into Start > All programs > Startup.

2nd Windows profile: I did the actions above on the second Windows profile I set up. 

1st Windows profile: The actions above didn't work on the first profile (Skype didn't start at all) but I have left it with the "Start Skype when windows starts" ticked, and it opens just fine, minimised.

I have Windows 7 64 bit too, and since the latest update to Skype 5.5.32.113, my Skype not only opens up the whole window every time it logs in automatically upon startup, it also opens a second window with my Profile and an annoying large sign about how my contacts haven't been active lately and that I should connect via Facebook!!

I tried entering the shortcut as you suggested in Autostart, but it doesn't help! How can I stop this annoying two-step shutting of unwanted open windows everytime I turn my computer on?

Well, I'm using the last version under 4.8 from oldapps.com.  I find the interface much cleaner given that I'm not even registered on facebook!  In 4.8, ensure "Extras" is unticked under "Advanced options".  Look for anything similar if you stick with V5.5 in the options.

However, I'm mainly posting because since creating this thread, I've re-installed Windows on an SSD - exactly the same setup as before.  The solution that worked previously, is now not working...am really getting hacked off with this.

Anyone got any more ideas?

At long last, I've resolved this problem.

Right click on the shortcut to Skype in your Start menu > Properties > Compatibility > tick "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" > "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)".

Note I'm still using V4.2, which has a much cleaner and non-facebook orientated interface.

It was exactly the same with MSN - I just wished I'd remembered this earlier.
