Skype version 5.5.0.124 on Windows 7 Ultimate
Checked for the updates, the message says there is a new version available. After clicking on donwload button, the update windows gets to the next step Initializing. And gets stuck on it (attached the screenshot). I've tried it multiple times, tried leaving it for a long time, simply won't work. I have not had any issues with updating before.
What is the problem now with update? How can I get it to work?

Thanks a lot. That worked just fine.
However, it still bugs me that the standard feature does not work and Skype simply won't care. And that is actually very strange, because normally the software company would want you to use the latest software. So, why Skype make their users jumping through the hoops to update the program?
The other thing, I was installing Skype for someone else a few weeks ago. And that was a pain too. First, it was really cumbersome to get the install files. Then it just would not work. Kind of the same thing. Clicked on the executable, the installation window will show the similar messages about the new version right away, prompting you to download it. After I downloaded the file, which was the same file and therefore it would do the exact same thing. So it would just go in a loop forever. I found a few links to other installation files. They would not work either. Eventually I found the link to another installation file that worked (I think it was the same file that you just gave me the link to). And then I was able to install it. Before that I had installed Skype multiple times on different machines and never had such problems.
And this makes me thinking that Skype does it on purpose. There’s no way they don’t know about the issue. So, why won't they fix it?
Also, is there the actual Skype support? I could not find the way to contact them. This forum is the user community, which is great. But, I would love to hear what Skype guys would say about the issue with updating and downloading and installing the program.

In my case, the full version still didn't help :/...What's worse, restoring of the previous version of the system didn't help either and now I can't log in even to the older version. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well...
