skype won't open the sign in page

Hi,

I recently bought a new Acer windows 7 PC. It had skype preinstalled and it was working perfectly. I'm not sure what happened (maybe a skype update?) but now every time I try to open skype I just get a blank blue page, with no sign in option. I've tried removing and reinstalling skype several times but it hasn't worked. Please help!

Re: skype won't open the sign in page

Hi,

I have the same problem. Windows XP. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Have tried several pages with fixes. None seem to work. Pages I have tried:

http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-114830-help-can-t-connect-to-skype

http://community.skype.com/t5/Community-feedback/Skype-won-t-start-running-xp/td-p/78782

http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows/Skype-won-t-run/td-p/392673

Skype was working fine a week or so ago. When I click on the desktop icon, skype fails to launch. No error message or anything. It's like the double click didn't register. Have tried launching through programme files as well. When I reinstall, it goes through the install and updating then just stops dead. Doesn't seem to get onto steps 2, 3 or 4 (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/get-skype/on-your-computer/windows/downloading/?cm_mmc=EMWE|0301_B6-_-0104_230212GBen&nonce=QfzuO0IhrQSlEKktvYYF).

Windows files are there and the shortcut is there. The **bleep** thing just won't launch!!

Any help/ideas would be most welcome.

Re: skype won't open the sign in page

allegorycave....You don't have the same propblem as the original poster here.  A blank signin screen is totally different from Skype not launching at all.  If you can't find a thread that really has the same problem you do, start a new thread of your own with details.

Please, answer first these questions:

What version of Windows are you on? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218

Go to Windows Start and in the Search box type winver.exe and then press Enter.

What is the version of Internet Explorer installed on your computer?

In Internet Explorer go to Help -> About Internet Explorer.

P.S. Please, don’t say that you are not using Internet Explorer. This is irrelevant. Skype depends on Internet Explorer.

Re: skype won't open the sign in page

Try this:

Go to Windows Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click on Command Prompt, select 'Run as administrator'.

The Command Prompt window should show:

C:\Windows\SysWoW64>

If what you are seeing is:

C:\Windows\System32>

then in the Command Prompt type: cd..  (2 dots are important) and press Enter.

Now you should see this in the Command Prompt:

C:\Windows>

Next type cd syswow64 and press Enter.

Now you should see this in the Command Prompt:

C:\Windows\SysWoW64>

Type this and then press Enter:

regsvr32 jscript.dll

Next type this and press Enter:

regsvr32 jscript9.dll

After each Enter you should receive a message saying that DllRegisterServer in XXX.dll succeeded.

Reboot your computer.

Make now the test showing if your Internet Explorer can execute JavaScript.

Open in your Internet Explorer (no other browser but only IE 32-bit version) this page:

http://www.mistered.us/test/alert.shtml

Click on the “Simply Click This Button” button and watch the response.

Re: skype won't open the sign in page

Thank you.

All of the above worked except for the last part, checking java through internet explorer - nothing happened when I pressed the button to test for java...
