skype will not open on my destop

Every time I try to open Skype on my windows xp it does not open. I double click the icon on my desktop and it 'acts' like it is loading but nothing is happening. I uninstalled and reinstalled it again and normally after installation it should automatically open up Skype but it didn't open up, even after I clicked it again? Anyone knows any solutions?

Hi, have you found a solution to your problem?

I am trying to install Skype on my Win7 Dell Laptop. I have not used Skype at all for about 6 or 7 years when it was just starting up and would like to use it now to call friends.

For me - After install, Skype just shows no evidence of loading, other than the 'loading' cursor for a few seconds.

I have tried the latest version from the Skype site, also the BETA. I have tried forcing an uninstall using REVO to clear all Skype registry entries etc between installs.

I have yet to see any actual program dialogues/windows.

Please help!

In Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone  or C:\Program Files \Skype\Phone if you're running the 32 bit version of Win 7.

Double click on the Skype.exe file (it may just say Skype depending on your settings).  Does that start Skype?

If not, have you looked in Event Viewer to see if there are any Skype related errors reported?

No I still have not found a solution.  I can download all other programs.  skype is the only one I have downloaded skype on my computer.  I looked in the directory, and everything is there.  The icon is on my desktop, but the icon will not open.  This never happens with my other downloads.  I have skype on my laptop with Linux.

I found that FireFox v9.1 has caused the webcam to stop functioning and this makes Skype open and then close with an error message stating to "Get the latest verson of Skype."

My skype address and password is correct. I am unable to sign in when I double click on the skype icon,repot saying I need to restart even though I can not get through.

I have installed on a new DELL Optiplex 990 with Intel x64 CPU and Win 7 -x64 OS.  Trying the Latest installation (v5.9) on the Business dowload, or rolling back to v5.7 or even the Beta link posted, none work.
Starting Skype crashes it immediately.  I tried running compatibility with XP SP2 and XP SP3 and neither works either.
Anyone have thoughts for Windows 7 (x64) SP1 with latest updates?
I even tried other recommendation of renaming the Appdata\roaming\skype folder with no success.

 I have tried uninstalling and installing again but it doesnt work.
