skype not working on windows 8 consumer preview

i have been having trouble logging into skype in my win 8 consumer preview...after entering the password it just loads and nothing happens...

I see identical behavior on Win8 x64 build 8400 (RC). After entering credentials and clicking "Sign me in" the spinner logo appears at right. The UI is responsive but the login never occurs. One thread in the Skype.exe process is in a tight loop that never exits.

yes.  Skype works fine with Windows 8 Developer preview.  But with Win 8 consumer preview (build 8400), Skype only works only when you first set up.  After you log out from your windows or shut down the machine, and then Skype does not work when you re-login/reboot.

I'm able to run around this problem by creating a new standard user account (local account), then use the Skype one time.  Then delete that account, and create a new account to use Skype again. 

Well that's why they call it "Preview".

Hi,

As a workaround you can try the following:

1. Quit skype and make sure that no instance is running using the task manager
2. Open explorer and go to Users\usename\, from there select view and check the hidden items checkbook
3. You should see a folder called AppData go to AppData\Roaming\Skype
4. There delete all the files and folder that contain the word shared. In my case were :

• folder: shared_dyco
• folder: shared_httpfe
• file: shared.lck
• file: shared

After that open Skye again and try to sign in.

Also I noticed that if you don't sing out and just quit the software it will open fine and auto sign in without issues (haven't tried shutting down yet)

Thank´s for the good advice. I misunderstood one critical thing: I was looking update for windows and not an update for Skype to solve this... So now, with the "hotfix", working. Thank´s again
