skype keeps disconnecting within seconds of established call

I have used skype for a couple of years without any problems.  Tonight, everytime I try and call anyone, within about 3 seconds of an established connection, it hangs up.  I have the latest version of skype, and it's not an internet connection problem.  After it hangs up,a sign comes up that says microsoft detected a problem.....

What can I do?  I use Windows 7.

Same here. I thought it was because it was a new computer. I tried calling and answering, as well as doing video and regular calls.

I have been having the exact same problem. I have  skype newest version 5.5+

Ii have PC with Windows 7.  Why does it keep shutting down?

Same thing is happening to me. Can't join a call or call anyone without Skype crashing after 3 seconds. Keep getting same same error message you report. I'm at a total loss. I reinstalled skype, updated windows, did a virus update, rebooted my computer....have no idea what is wrong. Really frustrating

Disconnecting or crashing? There is a fix about crashing that I has worked for me every single time.

Skip to the second post, if deleting shared.xml does not work, delete the folder named after your Skype user name.

Same here.

Skype seems to start fine, but as soon as I try to connect - it dies...

I unstalled it, scrubbed my registry, reinstalled it - still no good.

I have tried it on multipple PC's - same problems...

Anyone have any ideas?

I have been having the same problem all night. I even tried re installing Skype and I still get disconnected with a Windows error saying the program has to shut down.
