hi,
i am facing problem of very poor incomming video(interupted/broken/hazzy), also broken audio but other side could see me properly. i have installed latest skype 5.8 version in my newly purchased dell laptop (core i3). i have tried ''test service audio call'' but there also interupted recorded lady voice comming. i had checked my internet call status for skype, the worrying part was the 'downlink speed' was comparitively very less than 'uplink speed' which in other website surfing is just opposite. all above exercise has been done 'allowing full internet access' to installed macafee firewall. i am using wireless broadband 10MB speed which seems to be working well for skype in other laptop available with me.

What results do you get with a test at www.speedtest.net? Up and download speed, plus
ping?
Do you only have the problem with one contact or more than one?

hi,
A) the speed test result are as follows: download speed: 2.13 mbps and upload speed:0.39 mbps and ping 22 ms.
B) problem is with all contacts. including test call where recorded lady audio is interupted and vanished in between.

Your bandwidth insn't stellar, especially upstream, but should be good enough for video and more than good enough for the sound test.
Next time your on a call, click on Call > Call Technical Info. Copy and paste the results here to see if it sheds some light on where the problem lies.

What jumps out from that call tech info is an extremely high latency and packet loss.
Are either of you using wifi? If so, can one or both of you change to a wired connection? (Considering how low the latency was on your speedtest, I more suspect a problem at the other end of the call but wifi can be intermittent. )
What results does that contact get running the www.speedtest.net test?
The contact on that call is also running an older version of Skype. They might update to the latest via this link: http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-full
And last (for the moment) the info shows a CPU Powersave note. Are you running on battery power? If so, it might help to connect to an A/C source to boost your CPU performance.

The latest Skype is not 5.5, it's 5.8.0.156. As I mentioned earlier, the current version can be downloaded through this link: http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-full
The packet loss, jitter, and latency is still unacceptably high on that call. If you can connect to that same contact, through your same network connection, on another computer and the quality is much better, I suspect there must be something wrong with the network adapater in your new laptop.
I would think the problem is in the network adapater in your new Dell laptop, and that it may be a physical defect. The only thing that makes me scratch my head is how good the ping was on your speed test.
I suggest the contact you were on the call update to version 5.8.0.156 and that you both try using a hard wired connection instead of wifi. Other than that, I'm out of ideas at the momement. Maybe someone else will come along with some other insight.
