skype home unavailable

I am having trouble using skype on my Windows 7 laptop. Until recently, it was fine, in fact it has been working on this laptop for well over a year, but now when I start Skype I get a message saying Skype Home unavailable. On my netbook under Windows 7 starter, it works fine...

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Skype, have doen a system restore, but nothing works. What is going on?

Re: skype home unavailable

Hey I have a similar problem. I'm using version 5.8.0 on Winvista and get the "Unavailable" message whenever I first sign in, but after 10-15 seconds, the message goes away and I can use Skype. Sorry I can't help you, just wanted you to know you're not alone...

Re: skype home unavailable

Have you checked your own connection status on Skype? Is it Online? The status icon (the one left of your name) must be solid green with a white checkmark inside. You can try to change the status using the dropdown arrow next to this icon.

Re: skype home unavailable

Thank you for that. But I`m kind of old and this is scary. When I go into the firewall settings, I can change the 3 Skype entries to "allow inbound and outbound connections " Then this message appears----Do you really want to restore communication permission? Keep in mind that the permission you might have set will be lost after installation----

Do I just go ahead and click--yes--?

Re: skype home unavailable

Yes. You need to set the permissions to "allow inbound and outbound connections".
