Is ordinary video working? Was screen sharing working on previous version of Skype?

Yup. Video was working. Screen sharing on previous version was fine. In fact, even while I was running Skype 5.8 I was able to share screens with another pc running v. 5.5, just not with another PC running 5.8

Are you in call with person who is not your buddy?

What I observed is you can not share your screen if other person is not in your buddy list.

This might have broken (or intentional behavior) while adding screen sharing support in group video call.

I am experiencing the same issues as the OP and I've tried your troubleshooting. I've even went as far as to uninstall and reinstall skype and I am still experiencing the same issues.

Yes I am having issues with screen sharing as well. My friend and I have the same version of skype, he can share his screen, but I cannot. It is grayed out for me in the call. I don't know what to do.. any help?

Is your friend's status "Online" or "Invisible"?

im so glad someone figured this out. I was about to stop using skype and boycott them all together..lol Thanks for the feedback

Changing skype behavior to make it less user friendly is not cool.

I too have been unable to screen share with the new 5.8 update/version.  I think that's rather crapy that skype would emliminate that option from the users without warning them.  Had I known I would have rejected the update.   I have tried to screen share when in a video call and in a voice call with the video turned off, as someone suggested, and in both cases the screen sharing option is grayed out and not accessible.  Can anyone help with this?  I don't want to have to pay to upgrade to the premium version of skype to use this feature is there a way to work around this upgrade so I can still use screen share option or is there a way to go back to an earlier version of skype that still has this option available in it?  Please help!

screen sharing has not been eliminated in v5.8, but you cannot share your screen with a contact that has set their status to Invisible (which is seen as Offline by their contacts)

Skype premium is not required for screen sharing either

also, with 5.8 you cannot simultaneously screen share in both directions

Can some one tell me why i have downloaded the new version of Skype an my friend has the new version as well , an i have been all thru these help things an i have been trying to get this fixed but its not working i have to have my screen share for work an this bad no matter what version i download nothing works an i did have it at one point before this last update any help is needed , dont know what else to do
