It's a workaround. Not a permanent solution.

do i need to uninstall the skype i have on puter at the moment, or leave and just install the portable app?

You may take a backup of important files, then You may uninstall the program.

the skype portable didnt work either...still doing the same thing. stopped working upon login

Here is a Mr. FixIT:

Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows

Run This First. See if it resolves the issue. If not,

Temporary disable the anti-virus & Do all Windows Updates, including Software and Hardware, not just the Critical Updates. In most cases, this will resloves the issue.

i havent done mr fix it, but have updated all drvers and windows updates also
