Re: error codes 2203 and 1603 when installing skype

As a rule, the 2203 error code indicates problems with permissions on one of the folders used by Skype installer:

You can try to make use of this “portable” installation:

or you can try this:

Download, but don’t run this installer for the currently latest version.

Using the procedure described here,

extract the Skype.exe file from the SkypeSetup_6.5.0.158.msi file and replace your currently installed Skype.exe with this new Skype.exe file. You will be now running the Skype version.

Try this Fixit

Restart the PC.

Then try removing the Skype program entries using Windows Installer CleanUp Utility (msicuu2.exe), perform all the steps with Admin rights...
msicuu2.exe Download Link:!46621

Now try installing latest Skype with this link:

Re: error codes 2203 and 1603 when installing skype

This may not work for you but it worked for me: after getting the 2203 and 1603 error codes, I returned to the Skype download page and clicked on the "Try Again" button next to the "Problem downloading?" prompt in the middle of the screen. Perhaps I was lucky but the second install worked.
