cant detect microphone

Hey im trying to get my microphone to work on my computer, ive recently bought a new computer, and installed windows xp. my controll panel cannot detect any sort of microphone on my computer. ive been to every option available on windows and skype. i think i need to install some sound drivers but i dont know which to install and where to download it. could u help me?

What type of microphone do you have? Is it a built-in in your computer or webcam or an external which you have to plug-in in a soundcard input?

its a mic u plug in the sound thingy if u know what i mean the orange one. ive used the microphone before, i dont get any sound from the pc either. i downloaded realtek but didnt work

even been to the device manager trying to update drivers, but nothin to update

Probably you need a new soundcard.
