Skype’s policy is to do what is most suitable for their company and not what is best for the users.
Installation procedure is so poorly designed, so I would really recommend to make a portable installation of Skype. You can find a lot of articles on the Web describing the procedure, but you can also look here:
Just disregard any references to Skype 4.2 version and make use of the latest available version of Skype.exe.
Download again the msi installer using the link provided here, but don’t run it; save to some selected folder on your hard drive.
Now, download and install the free application – Lessmsi:
Actually, the installation of Lessmsi consists of just un-zipping the downloaded file to a folder on your hard drive.
Using Lessmsi you can open any msi installer file and extract the context without doing any installation. Doing so, you will get the required version of Skype.exe, which you can use for your portable installation.

thank you. i did not follow your instructions, but i did create a portable skype application from portableapps as it was far easier. it works.
but i can also keep using the portable skype, and even update it. thanks.
