I just opened an account today and had the same problem.  Running the "full installer" corrects the problem, but only temporarily.  Each time I log in, I end up at my account page with no apparent way to initiate calls.  Then when I run the "full installer"  again, I'm OK.  Is this normal?

No, it's not normal.

The installer should have created a shortcut on your desktop that you can use to start the Skype program.

If that didn't happen, for some reason, you can click on the Windows Start button, find Skype on the start menu, and start it from there.

That solved that; I was going to skype.com and logging in instead of using the shortcut.  Thanks G4 pilut, from former F-4 pilot.

I open to the welcome screen and there is no way to get to the screen you get to to start making calls. I downloaded the latest version and installed it. That did not work

I use windows pro. 7 and the skype version for windows. I am along time user of skype

but there was a problem with my credit card when my bank shut it down when some one tried to use it. The bank sent me a new card and I changed it in my account before

my subscription ran out and they shut my account down anyway I started a new

subscription and I get signed in and it opened to a welcome page. I need to get to my contact list so I can start making calls

I read your post several times and I still couldn't follow exactly what you're describing. 

If you're getting to the welcome screen in a browser, that won't work.  You have to download, install, run, and signin to the actual Skype program.  You can't use Skype's feature with a browser.

You said you downloaded and installed the latest version and that didn't work.  Why not?  What actually happened that makes you say it didn't work?

I am having trouble making calls as i cannot get to the page  needed to make calls all i get is the wellcome page  sign in and there is nothing more that is needed to make calls i am using imac osx lion can anbody help please.

This is incredible.  When you sign up for Skype, there is a short video intro which says nothing about downloading to a computer.  No wonder so many of us are confused.

Does this mean that someone like me, who uses public (pay) computers, has to  (try to) download

every time I go to a different internet cafe?

Okay, I downloaded and got my start-up page (minus contacts for some reason -- maybe they have canceled their subscriptions).  But when I want to start again, how do I start it up?  (I use public computers, which are normally Windows/Mozilla.)
