Windows 8 Release Preview - skype hangs up

I've just installed Windows 8 RP (64bit, english) and latest skype version on clean system (no other software installed).

I've managed to login once, but now it is impossible to login - I only see login animation, even if I pass wrong credentials.

Moreover, during this infinite login process skype has ~ 35% of CPU time (I have i5 processor).

What could be the cause of this problem? Is skype compatibile with new Windows 8?

Thanks for reporting. We are aware of this problem and will fix compatibility with a future update to Skype for Windows.

Right now there's no solution to get Skype working with Windows 8 Release Preview.

Same issue here, I've installed Skype 4.2, and it seems to work great in Win 8 RP so far.

I can also confirm 4.2 works like a treat but the latest version dies with the same issue above.

Least its working, look forward to the new version (is this the tighter integration between Skype and Windows Microsoft was talking about    )

I have the same issue on my Core i7 Laptop, except it lets me login, and everything works as expected minus a few minor things; the only issue I see is one thread is spiking at 100% so with 8 logical cores, that would be 12.5%. Short term fix that doesn't kill my laptop is to download process explorer, go to the Skype.exe process, and under properties, click on the threads tab and find the busy thread and suspend it. After that, everything seems to work okay. I think what is being hung is updating the contact list and displaying the proper names and mobile numbers associated with it. It's been about a day and it still hasn't updated the list with proper names (not Skype names) and still no numbers with the names.

Same problem with core i5 and Windows 8 RP. I have installed skype 4.2 -- it is work fine.

Delete your C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Skype folder (don't forget to back it up).
Replace "Username" with whatever you have.

Skype will be able to login, but the cpu load will still remain high. It runs without issues on Windows RP except this.

You are going to lose the messaging history if you do so. Deleting the shared.xml file in that folder is enough to fix the login window.
