Upgrading to new version of Skype

I am told by Skype that I have Euros 9.94 in credit. I was advised to upgrade to a new 5.6 version of Skype (I was on 5.5) and yet I am unable to do this. My frustration levels are rising rapidly. Please help!

Re: Upgrading to new version of Skype

This is all most unsatisfactory. Why encourage clients to upgrade and then make life as difficult as I am experiencing it this evening?

Upgrading frustration

Dear Skype

I see I am one of many more frustrated clients. Are you able to help, please? A response would help.

Re: Upgrading to new version of Skype

This is a user-to-user forum.  Sometimes getting an answer takes more than a few seconds.

You can download to your hard drive the installer for v5.6.0.110 from this link:

Re: Upgrading frustration

I am following instructions as per your e-mail response. I see no reply to my Frustration message of last evening. Nor do I get any help when I follow the link you suggest on the Skype Support Network. What I become aware of is the fact that I am not the only frustrated user of Skype in regard to your request that we upgrade. It makes me feel less stupid - small consolation when the frustration remains at high level.

Re: Upgrading frustration

I suggest that you spend your time helping us help you, rather than venting your frustration.  And starting multiple threads on the same subject/problem is prohibited by forum rules.  Please confine your posts on this set of problems to the first thread you started about it.

Did you try to run the link to the v5.6 installer I posted?  If that didn't work, why not?  Exactly what went wrong.

As for your 9 euros credit, what has that got to do with trying to upgrade the version of Skype?

Re: Upgrading to new version of Skype

AGAIN I made the mistake of allowing one of my PC's to upgrade.  Now on version 5.8.0.156.  I hope Microsoft gets tired of receiving trouble reports from abnormal termination of the application;  only 10 times this morning so far and the day is younr.  Running XP SP2 and had no problems with earlier version.  Now PC locks up all the time,  audio headset settings being changed between availbable devices, and audio just not working at all.  Please stop the apparent practice of hiring teen age know-iot-all's and get some decent QA.
