I use skype mainly on two computers. Home and work. Mainly for text chats.
During a workday I excenge plenty of messages with my colleagues. I read them all.
When I get home there are plenty of unread messages waiting in my laptop, though I'm 100% sure that I've read all the messages already in work.
Conditions: Home computer: Win7x64, in sleep mode
Work computer: W7x64, active
How is it even possible that messages arrive to computer that's in sleap mode? And why they are unread even if I've read them? Is there any way how I can prevent thsi behavior (other than turning my home computer completelly off)? I don't care if the messages arrive to my home computer but I don't want to have any unread messages that are actual not unread.
Sometimes it happens that these messages are not in the computer instantly at time of wake up. Sometimes they arraive in a bunch after half an hour or more of using that computer (no it's not time whan I connect to the internet, I'm online at poit when the computer wakes up).

Hi Donny and Ruwim
I’m also having the same issues as you have mentioned for example I have the following PC/access points with Skype (All PC’s are running Windows 7 64bit with latest version of Skype 5.5xxxx):
- Work PC
- Home PC
- Mobile Phone (Android)
- Notebook
At times some of these devices are on at the same time but they are not always all on but the issue is that when I connect to Skype it syncs the old history which is great BUT it marks read messages as unread, or if more than one device is on (eg, mobile phone and work PC), I will read and respond to the message from my work PC but my phone lists them as being unread which is rather annoying.
It would be good if Skype had a flag set in there messaging database of read yes/no so when it syncs the history to different devices it would also sync that very small bit. It would make a world of difference and make the hole experience allot better over multiple devices.

I have even more weird problem with messages lately.
I have 3 computers runnign Skype - work, netbook and laptop. I usually send and receive several Skype messages during my work time. Before leaving work I turn my computer too a sleep mode and I'm sure it stays in sleep mode all the night (or weekend) because when I arrive to work again it is in sleep mode. Than I turn on my laptop at home and do something and suddenly a Skype message arrives (I can hear the sound). That' weird on itself because nobody is usually writing me at late evening. Then I the notification window appears and I realize that it's somebody from work. I start to be worried if something went wrong at work - server is down or something like that. I open the message and I realize that it's one of the messages (not necessarily the last one) we exchanged during the day (or past few days).
So, to sumarrize it:
- Only one computer is on at the same time.
- Old (hours or eve days old) messages arrive and pretend to be new, unread messages.
- The messages arrive completely at random times (i.e. not immediatelly after I turn the compute on).
This behavior is very annoying, disturbing and chaotic.
I would prefer not having the history synchronized at all rather than this horrible mess. Can I turn history synchronization completelly off? Will this bug be ever fixed?

according to your description, only 1 computer with your skype account is running. but it might be the case that some second computer is running with the skype account of the colleague with whom you exchanged messages during work time. in this case, message synchronisation may happen with his local chat history data base. as a matter of fact, this effect happens frequently in my job constellation, up to 24 hours after a message, at least.

my guess it that this can be accomplished by turning off history on your notebook or your netbook respectively. Would you post whether that works?

I'll try this.
Thanks.

It would be good to get some input from Skype on this issue, I see it's been complained about for a long time now but no reply or acknowledgment on a fix from Skype yet... Does anyone know how we can get this escalated to someone at Skype that can look into addressing some of these issues in a future releases?
Having history synced between devices is a great feature and very hand when on the road for work or needing to check something up during the day when away from the PC you were at (becoming more and more frequent now days).

thanks for feedback. with some testing on my side I am sorry to confirm your findings.

at present I see only a workaround to turn off notifications of old stuff: menu Conversation > Notification settings: Do not notify me.

But that will turn notifications for particular contact completelly off, won't it? That's not what I want.
I wish somebody finally hacks Skype protocol, so I can use an alternative client
.
Thank you anyway.
