Re: Unable to log in

Thank you this fixed every thing but I did have to use the properties ...  /legacylogin. One thing I am not new to computers but I am new to Windows 7. I might add; it will ask you to find this folder C: Progam Files (x86), I statred to go to the RUN Message Box but there is no RUN Message Box in Windows 7. The instructions needs to add Go to your Desk Top and delete the Skype short cut if you have one ... "Click Start" ... in the small slot that says "Search Programs & Files" type C: ... Windows will then open a set of folders and you will see a Folder Named " Program Files (X86) Open that folder and you scroll till you see the Skype Folder ... open that folder and and you will see the Phone Folder Open that folder. What you are now looking at is the Skype.exe Icon this file is the file that starts Skype. Right Cick  this file choose ... Send To  from the menu ... choose Desk Top (Create Shortcut ) .... after that is done close that window. Go to your Desk Top find the Skype Shortcut you just created ... Right Click the Skype Shortcut ... choose Properties a window will open look for the word "Target" ... look for the Slot across from that word, the following text will appear ... "C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe"   ... click twice on that slot so that your curser will appear and move the curser to the end of the text .... Add This Text ...  /legacylogin ... type in a space between the   " and the   /   so that it looks like this:  ........................    "C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /legacylogin   ..... make sure you Click "Apply" at the bottom of the window and then "Ok" you should now be able to start Skype.

Re: Unable to log in

Thank you for the more detailed instructions on how to create the new shortcut. However, it’s not necessary to delete the ordinary Skype shortcut, but it just should not be used. In any case, the “ordinary” shortcut will be re-created whenever you do an update of your Skype, while the new shortcut can still be used.

There is indeed a Run command box in Windows 7, just like in Windows XP. See this picture.

It’s correct that you can access the folder list by typing C: in the Search box, but probably the easier way is to use the keyboard shortcut WindowsKey+E. This will open the File Explorer on any Windows system.

You have apparently solved your login problem using the shortcut with the /legacylogin switch, but can you use the Add a contact function in Skype?

Re: Unable to log in

I used this fix, but every time i start up my laptop i have to go through the process again otherwise Skype wont start....mine started playing up when i did an update of Avira Antivirus and forgot to quit Skype, dunno if that afffected Skype.

Also I am unable to unistall the Skype toolbar, i get the fatal error of 2738 each time i try to unistall.

Has a 'proper' fix been found yet? all the threads i have read are only temporary fixes that have to be done everytime my laptop is started.

Any 'new fixes' would be appreciated.

If you have used the /legacylogin “fix”, then it’s important not to have Skype to start with Windows. Uncheck this option in Skype or remove Skype from start-up tab in msconfig. The legacylogin is only activated when you manually start Skype using the new shortcut.

The 2738 error is caused by missing or wrong registration of vbscript.dll on your machine. You can see which actions you can take in order to get working vbscript here:

If Avira is blocking Skype, then you need to do the proper configuration in Avira.

Try Below:

1. Ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is switched on.

Click Start and then Run Type "control folders" and click OK. In the View tab, ensure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled

2. Exit Skype : From the system tray >> right click on the skype icon and click "Quit Skype"

3. Click Start >> Run Type: "%programdata%\Skype\Apps" (without the quotes)

4. Rename the folder login to login1

5. Then go to Skype folder inside program files and go to phone folder and then right click on Skype application and select send to Desktop (Create shortcut)

Now try running Skype.

I can't see the answer marked as resolved. Also, 1 Month is not a long time too.
