I got a new laptop and downloaded and installed Skype. It was a shock to find my husband's account there. I signed out of his account and then signed back with my own Skype name. I was able to get back in with my own Skype name but am unable to get back my own Profile picture and Contacts List. Skype stubbornly wants to keep my husband's account.
Try to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old. Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.
Many thanks. I was able to toss out my husband's Skype settings and put in my own even though I was not able to get back my contacts list. Fortunately my husband's own Skype account is still intact on his own computer.
What is most baffling is that why did Skype assume I was using my husband's account when nothing had been installed and downloaded on my brand new computer yet?
