Sound quality, fading in and out on both ends of the call.

[ Edited ]

The sound quality just plain --- on my account.  I keep getting told it is my hardware, it is my Internet Connection, etc.  Well I have two computers on my home Internet connection.  Poor sound on both with speeds of 20 meg when I doo a speed test.  My laptop at any wifi location has the same poor quality sound, and I also use Skype on my smart phone with the exact same results.  The sound fades in and out on my end.  The people I talk to complain it fades in and out on their end also.  I can't believe I am the only one having this problem.  I am looking for answers before I completely give up on Skype.......

Re: Sound quality, fading in and out on both ends of the call.

On your PC's, try going to Tools > Options > Audio settings and unchecking Automatically adjust microphone and Automatically adjust speaker settings.

You'll have to experiement to find settings that work best for you but I like the mic gain set to one notch from the left and speaker volume set to mid-range.

You might ask any contact who you're having the problem with to do the same thing at their end.   It makes sound levels much more stable.

Thanks, that did help some.  It works great on Skype to Skype.  Still have a little fading out on calls to a landline.  Haven't checked how it works on my android cell phone yet.  I will follow up later.

Also you must make sure Echo Cancellation is unchecked in Windows Sounds Settings

Re: Sound quality, fading in and out on both ends of the call.

I have just posted exactly same complaint, it is so bad that it is unusable at the moment and I am so upset that I got sucked into subscribing to premium account against my judgment, wanted to see if they force me to do this if anything improves and nothing at all did, same unusable service. Used Skype for so many years and had not any problems, but since all this Microsoft account merging it has become impossible to use. Not sure where I can turn to get my money refunded until they implement very quick and badly needed fixes. Do not have any problem with any other messaging eg. Yahoo, etc. HELP AND HELP FAST or you will see people will get fed up and find other ways of communicating with people.

Re: Sound quality, fading in and out on both ends of the call.

I had the same problem and could not figure out the problem.  I finally did a speed test on my computer to find out that my Internet was running slower than it was suppose to.  Called Charter and got it fixed and it worked fine.  That was 2 years ago.  About a month ago I was having the same problem on the computer in my bedroom.  Skype worked fine on my other two computers on my network.  I did the speed test on all three computers.  The one in my bedroom was running slow again.  I replaced the cable from my modem to the computer.  The speed test confirmed it was the cable, because it was back up to speed, and my Skype worked fine.  Something to look at!  Good Luck
