Skype won't detect my build-in camera

Skype won't detect my build-in camera on my laptop. I've been using it for one year now with no problems, and now it suddently stopped working! And its funny, i can still take a picture of somone i have a call with!! I haven't done any updates or installations or uninstallations resently. Please help me, i'll be happy..

(and why does skype not have any direct support, they dont have skype them selves???)

Re: Skype won't detect my build-in camera

What make and model laptop, with what version of Windows?

What version of Skype are you running?  You can get the Skype version at Help > About Skype.

Have you tried going to Tools > Options > Video Settings?  If you click on the down arrow next to the Select Webcam selection, is your camera not listed?

In Device Manager, is your camera listed under Imaging Devices?

Re: Skype won't detect my build-in camera

In skypes video options i dont have the oppotunity to select anything, it just ask me to find out more about video calls, buy a camera, and a guide to setting up a new camera wich is just the FAQ page.

My computer never had any driver installation in Divice manager for my web cam, and this has never been a problem. I cant find drivers for my computer. I have a MSI and my windows is windows 7.

Re: Skype won't detect my build-in camera

Are you sure that your webcam is actually still working? Do you have any other applications that can be used for testing the webcam. If not, then you can try this webcam test site:

Re: Skype won't detect my build-in camera

Yes i am sure its working, i can take pictures with in Skype. Its my computer who wont detect my webcam, but thats never been an issue, i've used it for 1 year now in this condition. There is no drivers for it for Windows 7, and MSI (my computer manufacture) are not helping.

The site for testing it you gave me can ofcourse not detect it either. Its like my camera is useless when i have windows 7..

Re: Skype won't detect my build-in camera

Wait...let me understand this.  If Skype doesn't detect your webcam, how can you take pictures with it within Skype?

What are the actual steps you use to take a picture in Skype?

Re: Skype won't detect my build-in camera

Yes its true.. I just go in Call options and video and take a picture. But the other options i can not do.

Its very strange, also because that Skype never had a problem with the fact that my windows cannot detect the camera but Skype could, and then suddently it wont detect it from one hour to another, without me or Skype making any upgrades.

Re: Skype won't detect my build-in camera

I'm still having a hard time understanding how what you're describing can work.  Can you setup to take a picture in Skype, as you explained, take a screen grab of it, and post it here?

Re: Skype won't detect my build-in camera

Restart your computer and as soon as it turns off press and hold command + option + p + r  It should restart your computer again  and clear the cache thus fixing your webcam.  I had to do a lot of searching to find this answer so here it is!
