Skype version 6.5.0 ----158

I have used Skype for some 10 years and since the last automatic update to the version above, it has become almost unuseable as far as the video is concerned. My Operating System is MS XP and I only use computer to computer communication. The problems experienced seem to have occured only after I added Messenger for Skype.

  1. Video can be seen by the person called but I only see a black screen.
  2. If Skype is minimised or I use another screen programme I do receive a postage stamp sized picture which cannot be enlarged
  3. Should I have a screen programme for instance from MS Word, with a white background I do see a very faint ghost image behind the text.

Solutions tried.

  1. Uninstalled  Messenger  for Skype  ; This had no effect. flashing postage size image on top of my own image
  2. I tried System restore to a date well before the problem appeared -- result I could receive the postage size video whilst simultaneously using MS Excel or other screen.
  3. I tried using the "repair" option available in help.  Made no difference

 My Desired result.

I would like to get back to my previous version of Skype that worked and was wonderful.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Try to uninstall the currently installed version and install the older 6.1.0.129 version using this msi-installer:

http://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_6.1.0.129.msi

After installing this version, make sure to disable the Automatic updates:

Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Automatic updates ->Turn off automatic updates

However, be aware that this will not solve the issue with the size of the pop-up window which you are seeing when Skype is minimized or not in focus. This window has a fixed size since skype version 5.7.

Thank you for your help. It now seems to be working, Should I stop "automatic downloads"?

If you don't deactivate Automatic updates, then Skype may automatically be updated to the latest version.
