the option for speakers AND headset to issue Ring tone is no longer available

With Skype 5 on Windows XP, in Skype - Tools - Options - Audio settings, I never see "Ring on all devices", even if there is more than one audio output device available. Contrariwise on Vista and Win7, I always get this option, even if there is only one audio output device available. (I do not exclude, however, that particular customizations of Windows, so far unknown to me, might modify this behavior).

Should your PC have a built-in "PC speaker", you still have the option to make Skype ring on the PC speaker. Bruno (who also happens to be one of the forum moderators), created a tiny free tool to do so:

http://skypestuff.free.fr/dlprocess.php?Internal%20Ringer.exe

paste the brown line into the address bar of your browser, hit ENTER

when page shows "Erreur", click once or twice on the country flag

Re: Skype used to be able to ring through my speakers with headset plugged in.

The link you posted is not working any longer.

I could pay to gat this option (ring on pc speaker) back working.

It is really annoing to miss so many phone calls just because I have my headset on...

if you're using an analog headset, why not get a Y-connector for the headphone jack on your computer and hook up external speakers so the sound goes to both at the same time?

a USB-based headset would also eliminate the issue by allowing other speakers to be used for ringing

Re: Skype used to be able to ring through my speakers with headset plugged in.

I am using skype 5.8.0.158 on windows7-x64

I had this problem too --

Are you using digital output from your sound card?

Like an RCA digital coax  (not optical in this example)?

Tools --> Options ->  Audio Settings --> Show Advanced Options

Look at the Speakers list.

Is the Foo Digital Output (RCA) ahead of Foo Digital Output?

Whatever the sound card text that is there, look for 2 similar

entries and make sure the one with the (RCA) is after headset,

but before the plain digital output.

Re: Skype used to be able to ring through my speakers with headset plugged in.

Not the most sophisticated but it works.

Load and open skype on your handheld and it will ring.  Unfortunately not your PC speakers.

Just a workaround until Skype gets off it high horse.
