Re: Skype tells me to check connection when I try to add contacts

Something must be terrible wrong with your Internet Explorer. Perhaps you should try to reinstall/upgrade it:

windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie

You should also check if your antivirus or any other internet security application is not blocking access to secure websites (those with https)

Could it be that I am using the 64 bit version? It is the latest one. Also, I am using eset smart security, I doubt it would not let me go on https websites!

Re: Skype tells me to check connection when I try to add contacts

Are you saying that you have used 64 bit version of IE? You must use the 32 bit version, i.e the one which is under C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe. I think that Skype will automatically use the 32 bit version, but then you must also make sure that this version is not in Work Offline mode.

I don’t know very much about ESET Security but some antivirus programs can be quite paranoid, so you can also try temporary to disable ESET and see whether this makes any change. However, first make sure that IE32 works as it should.

Re: Skype tells me to check connection when I try to add contacts

I have tried using the 32 bit version, and have tried with the firewall disabled. apps.skype.com/friendfinder/?action=search is unreachable in chrome also. I checked with isup.me, and that reports that the address is down too. Are you sure it's up?

Re: Skype tells me to check connection when I try to add contacts

I have no problems accessing this page. However, isup.me also reports a failure. You may also try to open in IE

apps.skype.com/home (again, add https:// in front of the link)

Were you able to login to your account on Skype.com using IE or Chrome?

Re: Skype tells me to check connection when I try to add contacts

I really don’t know what is going on. The apps.skype.com site is hosted on different akamaiedge servers distributed all over the world. You can test this by entering tracert apps.skype.com in windows command prompt. Are you sure that ESET Internet Security or any other internet security or antivirus software installed on your computer is not blocking access to akamai servers?

Just one more thing. Try to completely delete the Temporary Internet Files folder. With Internet Explorer (32 bit) go to Tools -> Internet Options –General. In the Browsing history section press the Settings button and then View files. Delete all files in this folder.

Re: Skype tells me to check connection when I try to add contacts

An image showing before and after disabling the ESET Smart Security firewall. However, even with the firewall disabled, I still have the same error in not being able to add friends or access that subdomain. Any ideas? The results on the image are a little odd, thhough that may be due to some sort of firewall configuration.
