Skype's SUPER laggy

It's nearly impossible to use, I've had Skype since mid-2010, and it's always worked fine until now. It's freezing CONSTANTLY, people's IM's come in laggy, and my typing is the worst part. I literally have to type one word at a time to make sure I don't have any typing errors. I've tried clearing my conversations, and deleting contacts, and it's just not working.

The thing is, EVERYTHING in the background works fine. That includes Google Chrome, Windows Media Player, and even photoshop. I've tried closing everything to see if it works better, and Skype is still unresponsive.

I've checked my firewall and everything, and everything checks out fine. Any ideas?

Re: Skype's SUPER laggy

Please install the beta version using the instructions below:

If you have the normal Skype version installed, please install the beta version, if you have the beta version installed please install the normal version from Skype.com, please do NOT remove the current Skype installation, install over it.

You can install the current release or the Current beta release by doing this from the top of this page:

Get Skype -> Windows -> Choose the normal or beta release, please do NOT remove what you already have installed, simply, install over.

These instructions have worked for many and is the quickest thing to try to resolve issues such as this.

Also, what operating system are you on and do you have all Windows updates and updates to any hardware devices by the manufacturers?

Re: Skype's SUPER laggy

Stop Skype.

Be sure that Compatibility Mode is not enabled (right-click on Skype shortcut icon/launcher and select Properties >> Compatibility) - for Windows 7 users only.

Try to launch Skype.

Also, are you using a wireless connection where others maybe as well, such as an apartment/condo building?

Re: Skype's SUPER laggy

My Skype is laggy too. The call and video quality is fine but the buttons and the actual window and graphics is laggy. It's really annoying.

Re: Skype's SUPER laggy

I tried that and everything was up to date, still lags. It's a little annoying but it doesn't disrupt the call. I just don't know why it lags.

I should mention that I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on a Dell XPS17 laptop, Intel CORE i5.

Have you recently installed or are running software that you normally were not running before? What is your avg CPU busy rate?

Re: Skype's SUPER laggy

It's been like the for a while and it actually happened after an update. My CPU is usually not that busy, I don't know what the exact rate is though.
