Skype "stops working" right after I log in??

So this morning, when I logged into Skype as usual, I clicked on an IM conversation that had new messages. It went to the group, then a message appeared saying "skype has stopped working".

It seemed like it was working completely fine, but windows closed it without even telling me. It only had that message that said "skype has stopped working- windows is looking for a solution" and then it just closed skype. I thought, okay I should just try again in a few minutes. I try again, click on the conversation, it's running fine, then the message comes back and it closes. After a few tries, windows tells me I should download the newest version. It still doesn't work.  I try deleting and downloading skype again, restarting the computer, doing a scan of my computer, and nothing worked. Anyone else have this problem or similar to it?

Re: Skype "stops working" right after I log in??

you're not the only one. everyone's having problems. something's wrong with skype. I just wished there was a way that we could contact stupid headquarters to let them know and get it fixed asap. also some people have suggested not downloading the beta version saying it's a virus. so be careful

I have the exact same problem. Even tried on 2 other computers just to rule out it's not the computers. It seems some people are having the same problem and some not. I uninstalled, reinstalled and still the same problem. If you find a solution, please let me know, and if I find a solution, I will let you know.

In your case and your case only.

1. Please stop any and all running Skype Client programs on your system.

2. Using your Windows Control Panel Add/Remove Programs uninstall Skype, when prompted to save your history, choose yes.

3. Using Windows File Explorer ("What you use to view files with") do:

%appdata%\skype

If you find a file called shared.xml right click on it and choose delete.

4. If you see a folder for the Skype name in question, click on it, if you see a file called Config.xml right click on it and choose delete.

5. Using the Windows file Explorer enter:

NOTE: If This is a 64 bit system, please look in the program files (x86) folder

%programfiles%

Right click on the Skype folder and choose delete.

6. Please install the normal version using the instructions below:

You can install the current normal release by doing this from the top of this page:

Get Skype -> Windows -> Choose the normal release.

These instructions have worked for many and is the quickest thing to try to resolve issues such as this.

Also, what operating system are you on and do you have all Windows updates and updates to any hardware devices by the manufacturers?
