Skype quits unexpectantly when I access any contact in my contact list.

Running Windoze 7 Home Premium.  32bit machine.  V5.5 Skype.  The application loads OK.  When I select one of my contacts, the application closes.  A friend skyped me two days ago, but I cannot skype anyone.

I have a similar problem running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. It is very odd. I can open skype and use the chat window without problems. When I make an audio connection, it connects, but after a few seconds the skype windows seem a bit faded and the connection fails. A dialog box opens that says:  Skype has stopped working (in light blue)

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Some additional details are important. This problem is reproducible by my calling the echo test. This was working without issue a couple of hours ago. If I log onto skype with a different user (on the same machine) I do NOT have the problem.

The solutions for "Skype has stopped working" did not seem to help.

I don't get any message informing me that Skype has quit working.  The application just quits abruptly.  Having to sign on with a different user name is unacceptable as a solution.  Since hundreds of people are having this problem, one would think that Skype would address the problem.  Could it be that they are waiting for users to solve the problem for them?  I'm not impressed with this method of "support" and I was a PC Support Tech for 16 years.

Download and Reinstall the new Skype 5.7 beta version. See if it helps.

If not resolve this issue, then

Please do a Skype reset:

1. Ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is switched on.

Click Start and then Run Type "control folders" and click OK. In the View tab, ensure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled

2. Exit Skype : From the system tray >> right click on the skype icon and click "Quit Skype"

3. Click Start >> Run Type: %appdata% Rename folder "Skype" to "Old_Skype"

4. Re-run Skype

Check if the issue persists

Open Windows Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events. Look for any error messages with timestamp corresponding with Skype crash.

I thought I had solved this problem by downloading a previous version.  It worked for a week and now Skype is quitting again.

I have had the same problem today. Unfortunately, your solution didn't work. I had already restarted my computer, uninstalled Skype, downloaded the most recent version, and reinstalled it. Still, as soon as I click on the name of a contact, Skype tells me an error has occurred and it quits.
