Re: Skype crashing instaniously 24/7

I tried installing the beta version but the installer says I have insufficient privileges and must be an administrator to install.

I am the administrator.

How do I get by this?

Re: Skype crashing instaniously 24/7

I tried downloading the beta version and it temporarily fixed the problem ("skype has stopped working" messages), but twice now when I switched my computer on I get the message, "your skype program is corrupted" and I am back to square one. There must be a more permanent fix to this problem surely?

There is a known bug in the Beta release, which results in that some temporary and lock files in the settings folder are not cleared when Skype closes. I’m not sure if this is the reason for the crash, which you are experiencing, but you can try to reset these settings.

Quit Skype or use Windows task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search box type %appdata%, press Enter. The Windows File Explorer will popup. Locate there a folder with the name Skype. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old. Restart Skype.

Re: Skype crashing instaniously 24/7

[ Edited ]

One of my co-workers was having the same problem. After reading the forums and determining that it was likely due to an ad on Skype I tried something on a whim - I changed her view so it didn't include the Skype home page. For example, in the View menu the top portion was set to "Contacts" and I changed the middle portion to "Call Phones" to keep "Skype Home" from popping up with the offending ad. I don't think it matters if the bottom portion is set as Default, Full Screen or Compact although I did select Compact. The key is to keep the "Skype Home" page from coming up. It came up initially anyway, but I closed the window as fast as I could. It shut down but when I started it again, the "Skype Home" screen didn't start up and she's using Skype normally now.

I decided to test my theory on my computer by turning "Skype Home" on in the view menu and my Skype immediately crashed.

Hope this works for you!
