deleted and installed the new beta 5.7 as suggested by ruwim and hasnt crashed since.
get it here
kiddos to ruwim
note: I also deleted adobe flash and reinstalled it prior to installing skype beta
Here's the exact steps I followed to resolve the Flash problem:
How do you fix the IE Flash problem? I'm having the same thing happen to my computer!
I was having the same problem and I have the latest version of my Flash but I'm still having the problem. Any more solutions?
Another possible solution that I tried (it failed for me but may work for you) is to delete the Skype appdata folder. On Win7 (and probably Vista) you type %appdata% in the Start menu search bar, then hit enter. It will open Windows Explorer, and from there you have to find the folder named Skype and delete it. Hope this helps!
As I understand, the reason of such crashes is the "stuff" which is pushed by Skype/Microsoft in the available place on Skype right panel. If a component (likely Flash player) is "not good", it might crash. Crash will not happen if there is no room for the ads (text is there), or all components (IE - this is MS) are good.
