Skype crashes on login for Windows XP 32bit

I just recently had to use system restore on my PC due to a nasty virus causing some issues. Prior to this system restore Skype was working fine. However, after the system restore and much scanning and cleaning, Skype will crash everytime I try to log in. It gives me the classic "Skype has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." "Send Error Report."    Also, it's not just Skype, but my ATI Catalyst Console Control, the control center for my video card crashes on start up as well.

I have read all the stickys and forums with all the suggested troubleshooting methods. I have uninstalled, and reinstalled every version of skype I can find.
I have deleted the .xml file that supposedly was corrupt. I attempted at renaming the app data folder. I updated my drivers...

What is wrong???? I can't seem to figure this out. Someone please help!

Am expereiencing the same problem but with Windows 7.  Tried skype early this morning and everything normal.  A few hours later got the notice as described in first post.  Deleted skype via control panel, reinstalled and get the same message.  Deleted again and reinstalled - same problem.  What is wrong???

Uninstall the current version of Skype, then reinstall the new Skype 5.7 beta version. See if it helps.

Download Skype 5.7 Beta for Windows:

http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-beta-full/

If not resolve this issue, then

Please do a Skype reset:

1. Ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is switched on.

Click Start and then Run Type "control folders" and click OK. In the View tab, ensure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled

2. Exit Skype : From the system tray >> right click on the skype icon and click "Quit Skype"

3. Click Start >> Run Type: %appdata% Rename folder "Skype" to "Old_Skype".

4. Re-run Skype

Check if the issue persists.

Tamim

Try This.

Here is a Mr. FixIT:

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/

Run This First. See if it resolves the issue. If not,

Temporary disable the anti-virus & update all windows hotfixes. In most cases, this will resloves the issue.

You can try to uninstall the device driver for your ATI driver, After that try to install your ATI driver again and see if it works.

Use Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

This helps you to completely remove the ATI driver.

Download & Install Latest Catalyst Driver Directly From AMD website.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Reboot.

After that follow my prior post.

Re: Skype crashes on login for Windows XP 32bit

Same problem with 6.x on XP SP3
The same windows build and software are installed on my laptop, and the same version of Skype works ok.

Where are the Skype representatives? Any other solutions besides rolling back to outdated releases?

I started hating Skype lately. And many of my friends and business partners moved to other VoIP clients because of recent jerky updates.
