Skype crashes immediately after starting

Hey!

My Skype crashes immediatelly after I'm trying to start it. The only thing what I can hear is a signal, that my Skype connected to a server and after that immediately crashes.

I tried to reinstall it with removing all registry stuff, also, by deleting "by hand" all Skype stuff. I also tried to install older version of Skype, but nothing helped.

That kind of "mystery" is happening since yesterday and in "Event viewer" I found three errors, which may solve my problem:

Faulting application name: Skype.exe, version: 5.5.0.124, time stamp: 0x4e96a02b

I can't understand the meaning of this errors, so just say, if all of them 'means nothing'. I'll try to look once more time..

Thanks!

Re: Skype crashes immediately after starting

All three error messages are saying the same message: access violation at a memory location 0x00000200.

Exactly the same case was reported here:

http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows/Skype-crashes-after-login/m-p/410337/highlight/true#M36886

None of the “FixIt” or other suggested solutions were able to resolve the issue. Neither installing another Skype version could help. Eventually, what has solved the problem was uninstalling the Avast antivirus software. Are you also by chance using Avast as your antivirus software?

Re: Skype crashes immediately after starting

Oh yeah, I'm using Avast. I'll try to uninstall it and after few minutes I'll tell the results.

Re: Skype crashes immediately after starting

Yes, the same one.
In that post (the one, you have mentioned above) I've found, that one guy did a virus scan with a "Panda Cloud" and found a virus. At the moment I'm doing virus scan with "Panda Cloud" also and I'll tell the results ASAP.

Re: Skype crashes immediately after starting

This is not an easy problem to solve. What I would suggest is to run DirectX diagnostic program, which will provide additional information on your system configuration.

Go to Windows Start and in the Search box type dxdiag.exe and press Enter. This will start the DirectX diagnostic program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. You may attach this file to your post.  Perhaps some useful information on the system and potential problems will be to find in this file.

Re: Skype crashes immediately after starting

There is nothing that apparently shows as something wrong in the dxdiag report but there are few things that you might still try. However, if everything of this will fail, then the best option for you will be to submit a bug report to Jira, were Skype developers will be able to consider your case in much more details than it’s possible here.

There are two items in the dxdiag report that might deserve some consideration.

It appears that the graphic device installed on your computer is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670. There have been in the past several reports on problems with ATI Radeon graphic cards and Skype. I don’t have any idea if this has anything to do with your case, but you can try to change settings inATIControlCenterwhich may have some impact on Skype. See this thread for more details:

http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows/VIDEO-PROBLEMS-HELP/td-p/445275

Another thing that deserves some attention is the fact that you have AVerMedia H968 Hybrid Analog/DVB-T tuner installed. This is pure speculation, but Skype treads all video capture devices as possible video devices and may make an attempt to use this tuner card instead of a webcam. However, in many cases using such a tuner card instead of a webcam will just result in a crash.

If you have a possibility to disable this TV-tuner card, which you should be able to do using Windows Device Manager, then this is worth to try.
