Skype can't update

Using Skype 5.5.0.115 now and I see a new version has come out. I go at 'check for updates', it says a new update is available, I hit 'download' and the progress window is stuck at initializing...

P.S. And, btw, why is an older of Skype available on the site for download?

your lucky i am on 5.3 and get teh same, nothing has worked since MS took over never problem for years before then. i tried to manual download but that id teh same and says teh newwer one id onlder  than 5.3 skype don tseem interested.

Try this link for v5.5.0.117:  http://download.skype.com/SkypeSetup.exe

or this one for the ~24 MB full installer:  http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-full

Both of those links worked for me this morning.

Try starting Skype using an administrator login (or the account you installed it with) and try updating.
