What do you see when on Skype you open Tools -> Options -> Video settings?

Open Windows Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events. Look for any recent messages that appear there after the crash. You may copy the text from the General tab and post it here.

I'm unsure of which one to copy as I've never viewed these before. Would you any idea which it would be that I should copy? Thank you for your help.

In general it’s not a good sign to have 5622 error messages in Event Viewer, however not all are important.
The CAPI2 error is in general harmless but you can solve this problem using this “Fix it” procedure
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2328240
It’s not easy to say which error messages have any relevance to your problems with Skype, but you can start with these:
Error, 4/28/2012, 10:29:52 AM, EventLog
Error, 4/28/2012, 3:11:07 PM, Application Error
Error, 4/28/2012, 3:11:14 PM, Service Control Manager

I do not see that the Skype community has fixed this problem. It has just started on my machine. (Aug 5-6, 2012). I have Skype up and running, if I find the person whom I wish to call and initiate a video, the computer immediately dies. If I am not initiating a call, but go to options and video, the computer dies. Windows XP, Service Pack 6, skype 5.10.0.116.
I tried Run eventvwr - there was no custom view and when I tried to look at options, there was no option to see the time in the log.
Why should I use skype when 1) it kills my computer, 2) there is no one home to answer the question?

Skpye since 2009 - it no longer works on this machine.

I had the same problem I was inning Exp 10 beta, I remove this and downloaded EXP 9 this solved the problem. If you are using Exp beta 10,this will solve your problem
