Re: Skype 5.5 does not log on automatically - bug?

Same here, and now I find that the echo sound test facility is not available as "this person has not shared contact details with you."  I have used SKYPE since it started with few problems, but since the announcement that Microsoft had bought it, the problems have accumulated.....coincidence or what....!

MS has not bought Skype yet -- the deal cannot close until Europe gives regulatory approval

Skype 5.5 does not log on automatically even though the setting is to do so. So you have to open skype, click twice to get rid of the stupid home screen, and then click sign in. This means, I often forget to log on to Skype = loosing calls and skype usage decrease.

Sounds like you are SIGNING OUT when you are done using Skype

Rather than doing this, simply right click on the systray icon and select QUIT

When you re-start Skype you will be automatically signed in.

The message "This person has not shared their details with you" usually appears if the user deleted you from their contact list. You can still call or send IMs to those contacts if they have not set their accounts to receive calls and IMs from users in their contact list only.

You can also right click on their Skype name, and if the option to Resend Contact Request appear, that would be another indication that you have been removed from their list of contacts. Lastly, you will see no other status other than the gray Skype balloon.

You can try to ask them to remove you from their contact list, do the same, then just send them another invite.

BOTH users MUST be online at same time for authorisation to be sent. Its actually sitting on your PC 'polling' for the recipient to come on line.

Re: Skype 5.5 does not log on automatically - bug?

Well, now there's the thing, there is no more "quit" option when right-clicking on the skype icon since upgrade to 5.5. Least not on Windows 7 version. So Autologin *does not work*

Skype certainly will not remove the option to Quit as this is a very basic and important option of the Skype software.

From the system tray >> right click on the skype icon and click "Quit Skype"

Re: Skype 5.5 does not log on automatically - bug?

[ Edited ]
That's what the word "bug" means. It's a "bug" the quit button does not appear in the upgrade. So unless you have something helpful to offer, or if you work for Skype and are able to investigate the issue, then please stop posting. You're not part of the solution.
And using the "quit" option from the actual Skype window DOES NOT close the application completely. It remains opened and the *only* way to close it is to open Task Manager and stop it from running.
And you'll see from my screen capture (attached) that the quit option is indeed missing from the skype icon in the task bar.

Re: Skype 5.5 does not log on automatically - bug?

Quit option was never available from Skype window. It is always available from Skype icon in the system try (also known as the notification area, there where you see the clock). This is well described in the post to which Tamim has provided the link.

Only on Windows 7 computers, the Quit option should also be available from Skype icon on the taskbar. However, due to a bug in Skype software, this option was not available in the case that User Account Control (UAC) was turned off in Windows 7 or if Skype was run in "As Administrator" mode. Turning the UAC on, makes the Quit option available. This bug is now corrected in the new Skype 5.7 Beta.
