Last night talking with my daughter, and all is good. When I launched Skype it said there was a new version to download. Downloaded, installed, no issues. BUT....since then, my PC hangs (Skype will not close, must click "end now") whenever I reboot, which also appears to be causing my PC to hang on the "shutting down" screen. None of these issues till I installed the new version.
Running XP W/Sp3
I recommend to download the latest Skype and search first.
To get the most out of Skype I recommend Skype Premium.

I have another Windows XP SP3 computer with the exactly same problem described here.
I have tried both 5.5 and beta 5.7 and both show the warning of close Skype when I try to shut down Windows. Have anyone found a solution for this problem ?
Thanks in advance.
I have exactly the same problem. This forum thread has been here since November 2011 with over 500 views, so obviously hundreds of other users have the same problem. Can somebody from Skype kindly at least let us know if they read this Forum at all?

The oringinal post here was complaining about version 5.5. That version did indeed take a long time to close. However, the current version is now 5.8 and it closes very quickly, at least on all of my PC's.
If you're not already running version 184.108.40.206, you can download the full installer via this link: http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-full
Don't assume you have the latest version. Click on Help > About Skype to see what version is actually installed.
It seems to me that Skype did listen and the problem being discussed in this thread has been fixed.
