I would like to add my support to those registering annoyance at the recent preponderance of advertisements that are detracting from the utility of what was a very useful tool. There are alternatives to Skype if they don't do something about it.

This was just posted in the Jira ticket section:

Hello, thanks for the info. Work on this issue started. ID WIN-20876
We passed this info to our developers team.
However, the issue seems to be extremely easy to fix and exists at least for weeks now. Additionally, there is the viciousness of adding the always-popup home window to older versions of Skype. Can you give us any proof that the issue is actually worked on right now?
Edit: His reply: I will post an updates about this issue here. I passed info and complains to our developers team. Proof is ID WIN-20876 of issue in our internal jira.
Well, let's see if something magically happens.
I installed the new version of skype to get rid of the "quality review" popup after each call. But now I get that nag screen of Skype Home which cannot be disabled AND the quality review. After seeing many other users complaining about this problem, and the ignorance of Skype addressing the complaints, I decided to drop skype. To me, any program that opens more than 1 window, can be considered spyware, spam, or bad developed software, because of a poor user interface.
The alternatives: MSN messenger turnes out to work very well, and will also start Google voice now..
I'd like to also add that when starting Skype in Compact Mode I can see no reason why I want the 'Home' window to appear.
Please disable this.

From reading earlier posts in this thread, apparently, the "official" way to request Skype Home not appearing on startup, is by contacting customer service.
You can also watch this topic in the development area here (remove line breaks):
The same thing is happening in my version 184.108.40.206 of Skype. And it isn't adds on the home screen, but the home screen itself. Has anyone figured out a fix for this?
I will disable Skype until this issue is cleared up. If it isn't cleared up soon, I will uninstall Skype.
I agree that the Skype Home screen needs to be removed, it is a pain to have to shut it down whenever Skype starts!
I have also received warnings from Malwarebytes AntiMalware Pro that it has prevented skype.exe accessing IP 220.127.116.11, which appears to be a site in the Russian Federation and which Malwarebytes considers dangerous. I presume that this must be the cause of some peoples spam. My HOST file is now huge, 8.475Mb, with all the spammers around, so hopefully they won't get to my machine easily.
